Glebe Foreshore Pool Proposal by Andrew Burges Architects
Sydney's iconic pool has been in the spotlight for quite some time, with recent renovations and a new lifestyle concept, it is sure to be a highlight of this summer. Sydney city council is currently working on a project that aims to change the face of the Sydney Foreshore and Harbor-side area, all whilst improving the livability and amenity for its residents. The initiative is part of a larger project to develop the waterfront called Harbor City 2030.
The council commissioned an architect to examine options for a “swimmable harbor”, making ambitious proposals for waterside pools and other upgrades at locations including Pirrama Park in Pyrmont, Elizabeth Bay’s , Beare Park, Barangaroo, Rushcutters Bay and the Glebe foreshore. .The council also commissioned an environmental impact statement on the future of the harbor and its environs.
The City of Sydney council proposes to build a new city pool and aquatic centre in Beare Park, Glebe. The proposal includes the construction of a new city pool and aquatic centre on an artificial island in the foreshore that would be connected by a bridge to the shoreline by way of elevated .It include multiple swimming pools on a man-made island, connected to the foreshore by a foot bridge. is also home to one of Australia's oldest swimming clubs - The Glebe Swimming Club - which has been operating since 1892.
There are currently Four Our Swimming Place . West of the Sydney Harbour Bridge along the Parramatta River, these spots are:
- The Dawn Fraser Baths are a great place to go for swimming and leisure activities in Balmain. The baths have been open since 1924, making them the oldest salt water baths in New South Wales.
- Lake Parramatta is a man-made water body that adjoins the urban area of North Parramatta. It is known for its long history as a site for recreation, and was once home to many industries such as milling, tanning and timber operations. The lake has undergone extensive restoration over the last few years and now provides opportunities for a variety of recreational uses of the waterway.
- The Chiswick Ocean Pool has been a popular spot for locals and tourists alike due to its historical significance, proximity to transport links and excellent facilities. They are also one of the few remaining Grade II listed buildings in Chiswick.
- Cabarita Park Beach has been known to provide some of the best-quality waves and scenery in the country. The beach is occupied by a popular surf school, a lifeguard station that is staffed on duty, and two kiosks that are operated by the municipal company on site.
Under the proposal, there will be the construction of new pools which will sit within the Sydney Harbour . There will also be new sections of the Sydney Harbour marked off for the use of public swimming . This proposal is expected to coincide when pollution levels begin to decline, making swimming accessible to many of the local residents who live within the region and to greater Sydney as a whole. .The Sydney Harbour pools will be built to accommodate the specific needs of the surrounding community, We expect that the new pools will become a popular recreational space for locals and tourists alike.
Having pools and swimming spots scattered around the Sydney Harbor can make our unique harbor an even more attractive place to live and may attract young professionals from suburbs further out along the beach to live closer into the city.
